A feature post of some of the best Mac OS applications that help you with your school, work, hobbies and much more. Many of these applications are free to use!

aMSN

MSN for Mac didn’t get the same popularity that the MSN for Windows did, it lacks many of the most general functions that the MSN for Windows has such as voice chat, nudges and winks. aMSN gives you most of the functions that the normal MSN has. Although it’s not as awesome, it does the job! You can also have many skins for aMSN which can be found on the aMSN website.

Audio Hijack & SoundFlowerBed

One thing I do sometimes is record the sound coming out of the speakers. On PC, this was simply done by using sound recorder and adjusting the input. On mac, I couldn’t find a way to get this done. After some Googling, I found really good alternatives. Soundflowerbed is a free application that let’s you choose it as an input and output from the sound preferences. And by using simple tools to record, such as Audacity, all you need to do is click the round red button.
Another application is Audio Hijack. As the name implies, it basically hijacks the audio. It’s an all in one application, and what’s really cool about it is that you can choose which specific application you want to record the sound from. It will record only that sound, even when there are other sounds coming out. What’s not so cool is you have to open that application (the one you’re recording from) after opening audio hijack or else it will ask you to restart it!
NOTE: It seems like it’s been upgraded since the last time I’ve used it, RadioShift is also awesome!

iSquint

If you were having trouble finding the right application to convert your videos, then iSquint is the application for you! With iSquint, you can convert any video so that you can add them on your iPod, simply drag in the specified files and voila! A ready .mp4 for you to import into your device.

Jing

If you’re into screen casting and would like a nice free software for that, this one is pretty nifty. It has all the basics plus a little more.

Picturesque

Picturesque is a nice and easy way out for adding that 2.0 touch to your photos. It includes things like reflections, borders, and of course, cropping. Very useful, very simple and very easy to use.

Skitch

let’s say I wanted to host a photo online really quickly, I’ll go to Skitch. Skitch is very similar to Microsoft Paint in Windows, but it has much more to offer! You can drag in photos, edit them, paint, add text. Then it’ll ask you if you want to post it to the web, of course you need to make an account for that. After posting it, you can control settings such as making them private or public. It will also give you a unique URL for each post for easy sharing.

Tweetie

Tweetie is an easy-to-use twitter tool application. It will basically break down all the Tweets of your followers to speech bubbles, which make them stand out more based on the time line. The only down side of Tweetie is that it requires you to have Leopard (Mac OS X)!

Look Out For More

If you think these applications are awesome, keep coming for even more free Mac applications!
